Penerapan Project Based Learning untuk Meningkatkan Keterampilan Proses Sains dan Berpikir Kritis Mahasiswa Biologi

Abstract


Project-Based Learning will demand activity and provide immediate experience for students. This model of learning can be applied to the ability of science processes and critical thinking in college students.  The skils of science processes and critical thinking are High Order Thinking Skills that need to be enhanced in biology student cadets. This research is a class action research in the design of a highly classified taxonomy plant, it aims to know the proper application of learning in some of the highly classified taxonomy plants. The implementation of project-based learning (PBL) was limitedly tested on thirty biology education students who took highly classified taxonomy plant courses. PBL was done on the topic identification and classification of plants to enhance science process skills (SPS) and critical thinking of students. The measured SPS indicators were observing, preparing hypotheses, measuring, interpreting data and making conclusions. Whereas indicators of critical thinking are being open-minded, thinking analytically and paying attention to details. The results showed that the improvement of students' science process skills in the 1st cycle of 72,79% increased to 89,27% in 2nd cycle. Critical thinking skills on the 1st cycle of 64.31%, improved to 79.13% in 2nd cycle. The conclusion of this research is the science process skills and the students' critical thinking biology education students of the semester four STKIP Bima can be improving through project-based learning.
