Abstract

Second language learning and second culture learning are two related things. Robinson-Stuart and Nocon (1996 in Brown, 2007) suggest that language learners should carry out cultural learning as a process related to the language learning process. Brown (2007) states that second language learning involves obtaining a second identity. Based on this view, language learning and cultural learning are two important things in order to obtain a new identity. The statement is related to research on cultural learning strategies in learning Indonesian as a foreign language at a learning center in Cisarua, Bogor. The data used are the results of observations and material used in learning Indonesian as a foreign language at that place. An interesting question that arises is how the  acquisition of Indonesian culture in learning Indonesian at the learning center. The purpose of this research is to explain the strategy of learning culture in teaching  Indonesian as a second language . The results of the interim analysis showed that in the learning strategy of Indonesian as a foreign language, there was no teaching of Indonesian culture because most of the instructors only taught Indonesian without including cultural elements.
